ARTgathering

ARTgathering

Hosted by Korea Klubben (Denmark): OPEN CALL
July 31st – 5th, 2007
Sofitel Ambassador Hotel

Hosted by Kyunghee University Gallery:
"Adoptee & Alien: Visions From the Periphery"
August 1 – September 30, 2007
KyungHee University Museum of Art

The IKAA Gathering 2007 in Seoul is a unique opportunity to show the diversity of expressions of international Korean adopted artists.

 1. OPEN CALL

Organized by The ArtCommittee 2007:
Hyosung Bidol, (US), UFOLAB - Jane Jin Kaisen (DK), Jette Hye-Jin Mortensen (DK), Trine Gleerup (DK) & Anna Jin Hwa Borstam (SE).

The idea of the OPEN CALL exhibition is to show the diversity of creative expressions flourishing within the international adoptee community.  We all have different reasons and needs to express ourselves creatively.  Either you choose it as a profession, or you just do it anyway, or find a third way to define your practice.

The Open Call is unique in the sense that everyone is invited to participate, from all different countries in all different mediums and expressions.  It will become a temporary space and time where artists will meet other creative people.  This is a moment for the artists and the audience to share personal curiosity, academic research, and alternative actions all under the same roof.  During this coming week you will be able to enjoy, think about, experience, maybe get upset about, and be seduced by visual art, performances and readings.

Adoptee & Alien: Visions From the Periphery aims to be a stimulating and provocative look at the range of diasporic works being produced by adopted Korean artists as well as resident foreign artists living in South Korea. This special exhibition will also be the official inaugural exhibition for the new gallery space at Kyunghee University.  We also hope to instigate an interactive dialogue with “draw your mind,” an opportunity for visitors to express their reactions and opinions about inter-country adoption out of South Korea.
